Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) in Washington US have acquired three of Narielwalla’s artist’s books to be held in the Cynthia Sears Artists’ Books Collection. Since its inception, BIMA has been an advocate for artists’ books, dedicating an entire space, the Sherry Grover Gallery, with over 4,000 one-of-a-kind works and limited editions from across the globe, it is one of the most significant collections of its kind–and continues to grow.

Dead Man’s Patterns is a story, beneath the trappings of English menswear into the book, the man, the pattern, and the tailor. And this story begins with a simple find: a set of bespoke patterns (jackets, suits, trousers) cut by Savile Row tailors Dege & Skinner, belonging to a customer who is now sadly dead. Luring these fragile pieces of parchments out of their original context, a design journey has been visualised; analysing, extracting and manipulating these patterns to find a new visual dialogue as abstracted shapes of human beings.
