The John Ruskin Prize was founded by The Guild of St. George in 2012, under the administrative umbrella of The Big Draw supported by the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust. Over the years the prize has honoured painters, printmakers, designers, sculptors, photographers and a wide range of craftspeople.
In 2025 the artwork The Awakening was shortlisted for it’s 7th edition of the art prize.
The Awakening a double panel painting on found paper is part of the series Universe Maps made in 2023, made on German sewing patterns from 1920s. They are utilitarian sheets of paper that contain on them pattern drawings of multiple clothing. Take the artefact out of the context and they become imaginary maps of the universe. As an artist I paint – imagining and tracing abstract map of the Universe from my eye to the hand…The sewing pattern transports itself from mapping the body to mapping the universe.
